Me Cat: I wish I wouldn’t second guess myself.
New Therapist Cat: Ah! What would your intuition say?
Me Cat: My intuition would say, “Trust your gut!”
New Therapist Cat: See? There’s your answer!
Me Cat: Yeah, but my gut is tired of working overtime.
New Therapist Cat: Your gut needs back pay!

Resource of the Week: Interoception
Interoception is the body’s inner sensing system: heartbeat, breath, gut sensations, hunger, fatigue, pain, temperature, muscle tension, and those hard-to-name “something feels off” signals that arrive before language does.
For autistic people, trauma survivors, and highly sensitive nervous systems, interoception can be complicated. Sometimes the body signal is loud but hard to interpret. Sometimes the signal is faint until it becomes urgent. Sometimes anxiety, memory, pattern recognition, and intuition all arrive wearing the same coat.
So the practice is not “always trust your gut immediately.”
How to listen to your intuition:
Pause.
Listen (I mean, do a body scan)Then ask: what kind of signal this is?
Then decide whether you need action, rest, more context, or support.
Intuition says, “Go.” It can also say, “No.”
Sometimes it says, “Email your therapist, take a nap, and draw the comic.”
And sometimes the gut simply says:
“I am tired of working overtime.”
